The IIA and its member colleges give students access to a variety of scholarship and other financial assistance programs to support their information assurance education and preparation for careers in the field.
Federal Scholarships
Northeastern University’s designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance and Research by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security provides opportunities for students who are U.S. citizens to receive two types of federal scholarships:
- National Science Foundation Scholarship for ServiceThis National Science Foundation (NSF) program provides scholarship funds to encourage qualified undergraduate and graduate students with diverse backgrounds to enter the field of information assurance. At Northeastern, students in the College of Computer and Information Science and the College of Engineering Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are eligible for consideration.Students in the NSF Scholarship for Service program:
- Participate in faculty cyber security research projects.
- Receive funding for information assurance activities, conferences, and other academic pursuits.
- Complete information assurance co-op assignments and internships.
- Commit to two years of employment with a federal government agency, national laboratory, or other approved organization after they graduate.
- Department of Defense Information Assurance ScholarshipThis program offers full scholarships to full-time students in information assurance and related programs involving computer and network security. The scholarship covers tuition, many fees, and the cost of books, and the program also provides a stipend for room and board. Undergraduates entering their junior or senior year as well as graduate students are eligible for consideration.Students who receive this scholarship agree to:
- Meet the scholarship program’s academic standards.
- Obtain federal security clearance.
- Complete information assurance internships.
- Serve in the Department of Defense after graduation for the same number of years the scholarship was granted, or choose active military service of at least four years.
Other Financial Assistance
Doctoral students are eligible to be considered for teaching and research assistantships within their program. Other graduate students may be considered for Dean’s Scholarships or merit scholarships offered by their college.
